Catherine Bernard's Laodamia

🎉WHO: You!
📖WHAT: Digital cold reading of Catherine Bernard's Laodamia💥WHEN: 2pm ET🗽WHERE: Zoom! RSVP for Link
Blend the political intrigue of Shakespeare’s histories with the visceral drama of a Greek tragedy…to get this tight verse play featuring a moral yet conflicted Queen trapped in a tragic love quadrangle. Caught between her heart and her sense of place, Queen Laodamia has always lived a life of self sacrifice – until she falls in love with her sister’s betrothed. With impending revolution, this tragic love story is as much about deep sisterly bonds as it is about political intrigue.
ROLES FOR LAODAMIA:
LAODAMIA – Queen of Epirus. Torn between love for Gelon and her devotion to her country. Responsible, reserved, willing to sacrifice.
NEREIS – Princess of Epirus, younger sister of Laodamia. Innocent, passionate, loving, clever. Engaged to Gelon.
PHAEDRA – Nereis’ companion, a voice of reason. Steadfast, reasonable, the emotional and energetic opposite of Nereis. ARGIRA – Laodamia’s companion. Wise council, empathetic, intelligent, a nuanced politician by proxy.
GELON – The Prince of Sicily. Devoted fiancé of Nereis. Noble, confident, committed to his word and his honor.
SOSTRATE – A high-status noble, in love with Laodamia. Ruthless, bold, and ambitious, unafraid to mislead people to get to what he wants.
MILO
– Devoted advisor to Sostrate. Affirming, willing to scheme.
PHOENIX – Minister of state. Cunning, intelligent. Fighting with Sostrate to remain in favor and therefore in power.
