Heaven Challenges
by Li Man-kuei
If you’re looking for a dramedy about reframing your life and learning to fall in love (with yourself) again…
Some of our favorite quotes from Heaven Challenges:
“The essence of art springs from one’s inner soul.”
“When there’s no fish, the shrimp becomes the queen of the sea.”
“I should hope that someday you would become a great artist & stand up for women.”

Li Man-kuei Trivia
Li Man-kuei (李曼瑰) (1907-1975) – a trailblazing politician, educator, and dramatist – has been described as “the mother of modern Chinese drama.”
She won a Hopwood Award at the University of Michigan… winning it the year before Arthur Miller.
Li introduced Western performing arts styles to Taiwan via the Little Theatre Movement that she established in 1960.
This Month’s Event:
RESCHEDULED: This Is A Classic! Live
Join us on January 22 at a live show of the ETC podcast and celebrate 36 plays by women throughout history (the same number of plays as Shakespeare wrote!)
There’s something for everyone – verse plays, political plays, wacky plays… Which classic is right for you?

Not in New York? No problem.
Join us via livestream - which stays available for a week after we air!
Expand the Canon is sponsored in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, the NYSCA-A.R.T./New York Creative Opportunity Fund (A Statewide Theatre Regrant Program), and the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC).
