We’re missing half our history
We advocate for women’s work to be known & acknowledged through history.
For 2025, we have 52 plays by gender-expansive playwrights to be read, produced, and included in the classic canon. Bold and exciting projects are coming up in 2025 and beyond — and to correct our history, we need your help.
Your support allows us to hear women & gender-expansive voices from the past, to influence the voices of today, and make way for the voices of tomorrow.
In a divisive world fighting to control the guiding narrative, the mission of our Expand the Canon initiative is crucial. Together with professional theaters, educational institutions, and civil rights advocacy organizations, your support will help us:
📚 Publish monologue books with pieces from the ETC project(introducing new material to female, male, and gender-expansive actors)
🤝 Partner with professional theaters across the country (getting Expand the Canon plays produced at large-scale levels)
🧑🏫 Lead educational workshops and talks with colleges & universities (cementing these plays in curricula and regularly on student stages)
📝 Commission a new play to be written in conversation with ETC plays(stretching the legacy of gender-expansive classics from past to future)
🔎 And as always, find, research, & celebrate our ever-growing list of plays by female and gender-expansive playwrights that are classics!
