We’re Getting Stuff Done!

Here at Expand the Canon, we are so excited to share with you some recent wonderful wins that have brought us a little closer to a gender-equitable future for classic theatre!

#1 - 110 Classic Monologues Now at Drama Book Shop 📚

Our brand new monologue book, 110 Standout Classic Monologues for Any Actor, has sold over 110 copies already and is available at Drama Book Shop while supplies last!

That means 110+ people studying, reading, and auditioning with classic monologues by women playwrights!

#2 - We’re on The Verge of Off-Broadway 🪴

Coming this fall, we are partnering with Fiasco Theater to bring The Verge (ETC 2023 List) to The Public.

Machinal meets Little Shop of Horrors…

The Verge is a tragi-comedy that follows a botanist, Claire Archer, trying to breed never-before-grown plants. As a snow storm rages outside and three men from her past/present converge on the greenhouse, Claire must grapple with the tension between her unique life and the expectations society has of woman.

Starring Tony Award Winner Miriam Silverman as Claire Archer

#3 - THOUSANDS are following along on socials 📲

ETC has hit 1,000 Followers on Tik Tok and 4,000+ followers on Instagram!

Check out our most popular Tik Tok about Zora Neale Hurston’s involvement with creating the first realistic Black baby doll (will you be the 7,000th like??)

Our social media accounts are a place for anyone and everyone to access information about ETC Writers and learn why they should be as excited as we are about these incredible women!

#4 - Community Win: Classix at TFANA 🎉

One of our company partners from our We Begin with Classics panel, Classix, was selected for a two-year residency at Theatre for a New Audience!

Classix is an incredible company who brought the first major revival of Alice Childress’ The Wedding Band to NYC audiences in 2022 (Childress’ Florence was featured on our 2024 List). We can’t wait to see what their residency yields!
